*Our Speaker will be PPA David Singer (Post 126), in reference to Ararva/Hazon Israel Bike Ride, 300+ miles through the Negav Desert presentation from Jerusalem to Eilat in 6 days last May. Joining David will be David Weisberg, the Executive Director of the Friends of the Ararva Institute and, hopefully two of the Alumni from the Institute. PPA Singer will hopefully show a short movie that was made by a professional filmmaker during their ride and maybe some of my stills. We plan to get visitors from his bike trip, including those possibly from Israel. You can’t miss this one! *Post 126 won almost every Award in which we submitted scrapbooks. The Scrapbooks for these awards were put together and submitted by Bob Richter and Larry Altersitz. *Post 126 won the Community Service Award. *Post 126 won the award for having the Most Outstanding Achievement in the field of helping active duty troops. *Post 126 won an Award for having the Largest Numerical Increase in New Members for our class: i.e. – Posts with more than 250 members. Bob Richter was credited with getting these members. *Nelson Mellitz won the County Council Commanders’ “Commander of the Year” Award.

NATIONAL CONVENTION, PITTSBURGH, PA – AUGUST 2008 OVERVIEW of our past Convention - by Bob Richter Post 126 was well represented at our National Convention in Pittsburgh, PA. Attending were: Bob & Estelle Richter, Arthur & Mildred Seltzer, Bernie & Marlene Epworth, Nelson & Debbie Mellitz, Larry Altersitz and Jay Jaspen. Richter, Epworth, and Mellitz are Committee chairmen and Arthur Seltzer is a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) which is the policy determining Committee for JWV. Our Post has a very high profile at the National level and had a very high profile at the 2008 Convention.
Bernie Epworth acted as spokesperson for Post 126’s delegation and cast our 32 ballots for Ira Novoselsky for National Commander. Ira won by a huge majority. Ira was asked to be a guest speaker at our Post and accepted pending a formal request and available date.* *Next year’s National Convention will be in New Orleans in August at a cost of $135 per night. The Hotel is in the French Quarter just off Bourbon Street. The writer attended a JWV Convention in the same location four years ago and had a fantastic time. If you have not visited the French Quarter, You will be in for a treat. POST SHABBAT SERVICE There will be a POST Shabbat Service on Friday, November 7th, 2008 beginning at 8:00 PM. It will be held at Temple Beth Sholom in Cherry Hill, NJ. VETERANS’ DAY – November 11th, 2008 Veterans Day POPPY SALES - We will sell Poppy’s on the following days: FRIDAY, 11/7---SUNDAY, 11/9---MONDAY, 11/10—TUESDAY, 11/11. ALL FOUR DAYS from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day!!! WE WILL STAFF THESE HOURS WITH POST #126 MEMBERS. ALL MEMBERS WILL BE RECEIVING A CALL TO WORK AT LEAST 2 HOURS SHIFTS, MINIMUM 1 DAY. IF WE MUST, WE WILL PERSONALLY CALL MEMBERS TO SERVE!!!! Please participate and get involved. It is important to YOUR Post. Your Post is looking forward to hearing from you to VOLUNTEER for two hours or more on one or more days. This is YOUR Post! You have been very supportive in the past so I hope you will continue and be supportive in participating and volunteering for our activities/events – in this case, our well-worthwhile “Veterans’ Day Poppy Drive Sales”. Our Senior Vice-Commander, Dr. Ira Weiss, is in charge of the Poppy Drive so CALL him as soon as you can to have your name listed as a volunteer! (and/or notify one of the Board Members listed on the first page, left column). We thank you in advance. The OK CORRAL RESTAURANT BUSINESS HONORS VETERANS/MILITARY - November 11th, 2008, THE OK CORRAL will be honoring those who are in Military Service and who are Military Veterans. RSVPs to the restaurant are encouraged. Must have Military or some type of Veterans’ ID such as your DD-214, VA Hospital ID, and/or letter from VA, etc. The Restaurant is giving a free Buffet to honor our veterans and military members on Veterans’ Day. Call your nearest OK CORRAL restaurant to get further details and/or RSVP. FROM THE JWVA POST 126 PRESIDENT: To all the Ladies Auxiliary members of Post 126... Please join us at the opening meeting on Monday, September 8th, 2008 at 7:30 PM, Monday, October 6th, 2008 at 7:30 PM, and Monday, November 3rd, 2008 at 7:30 PM. As usual, our meeting will follow the program portion of the men's meeting. I want to share with you my experiences at the National Convention in Pittsburgh and also talk about some great projects. Yes, we are still collecting "bears"...but hold off on the coupons until further notice. Please plan to attend our meeting and DO BRING A FRIEND.
