COMMANDERS CORNER - August 2007Comrades: Last month we started our tour as your new Commander. We solicited your opinions or ideas for inclusion in "Listen Up" the new name for your news letter. So far, none of you has expressed any willingness to give your Post a few hours of your time each year to help us accomplish the many programs that constitute our mission. What does it take to motivate you guys who are physically able to respond to this call for your help? Your Executive Board members spent two to three hours at the July and August meetings addressing things that continue to benefit you as a Jewish American who served his country, and it benefits those who now serve, and it benefits those who served, and it benefits those who are unable to take care of themselves, and it benefits Israeli support in Congress, and much, much more. They may not directly be of benefit to you today, but in the big picture you get the indirect benefits now and in the future. Come join us at an Executive Board meeting, come to the general membership meeting, come feel proud again for doing more than eating out, or going to the casinos, or whatever it is that gets you out of the house. Feel proud that you let others volunteer to do your work for you? You didn't do that when your butt was on the line and only teamwork and some esprit d'corps got you through. We know that shame won't motivate you. We want concern for your own interests to motivate you. Come on in and join the fun, you will be surprised what you will get out of your participation, your few hours a year. The guys around the table went home with a feeling of some accomplishment with tons of stuff yet to be addressed. We can do it without you, but it will be a heck of a lot easier with you. Thanks for listening.
